Sin?

What constitutes sin?

Sin is basically doing that which we know is wrong, either to ourselves or unto others. When most people think of sin, they think of it in religious terms ("Lust", "Gluttony", "Greed", "Sloth", "Wrath", "Envy", and "Pride"). However sin is a lot more than just the harsh, convicting sermon of a bible toting preacher proclaiming the ten commandments. It is the main deterrent which keeps society in a state of disharmony. A sinful society is always fighting itself to stay alive, and never reaches a state of true harmony. Whereas a sinless society would be harmonious in its general nature - of course this is only an analogy, since there are no sinless societies to compare to [other than the final paradise which is still yet to come]. The main reason scripture speaks so harshly about sin, is not to give preachers something to rag about, but that God desires for man to be in perfect harmony with God, himself and with each other, and sin is the one thing which destroys harmony. |
Rom 5:12-19 KJV - Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also [is] the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, [which is] by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as [it was] by one that sinned, [so is] the gift: for the judgment [was] by one to condemnation, but the free gift [is] of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one [judgment came] upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one [the free gift came] upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. | Rom 6:23 KJV - For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. | Sin equals death in the end, plain and simple. Our human (mortal) curse, given by Satan. | Jhn 8:44 KJV - Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. | Jesus was addressing the 'evil' religious leaders, whom were Satan's children. | Gen 18:20,21 KJV - And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. | The bible tale of 2 ancient 'sin' cities destroyed.. full bible story. | Today, we have mystery Babylon, which awaits same fate in the future. | Rev 17:5/18:2,10,21 KJV - And upon her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast [it] into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. | Representing a major sized doomed culture, both in religious and economic status. | 2Pe 2:14 KJV - Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: | Yes, the 'evil' world we live in today (as was before), wherein 'sin' abounds period (the 'sin' list is huge; lust, gluttony, greed, hatred, lazy, envy, pride, idolatry, etc). A culture that denies God wholeheartedly, yet loves (worships) Satan to the max; "We are our own gods", they say. As you can see, I don't agree with their philosophy, though still self struggle with 'sins' aspect (booze, smoking, etc), as do many believers. The apostle Paul expounds on the sin 'corruption' topic. | Rom 6:6 KJV - Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. | Rom 7:25 KJV - I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. | Paul's mind focus was Christ, yet he still was a victim of sin by the flesh. | Rom 3:23 KJV - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; | Rom 8:5,7.27/11:34/12:2 KJV - For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God. For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
